Studio Calendula - RIVERSIDE APARTMENT |
Garden studio |
Luxury self-catering |
Studio Calendula stands, Venice-like, right over the waters of the Thames. On the lower ground floor, with glass doors onto the river and onto the riverside conservatory, the studio is sunny and light. Ripples of water dance on the ceiling in the wake of boats gliding downstream.
Calendula is the most spacious of the Folly Bridge apartments. It has its own front door and a small private conservatory for outside dining or reclining, fishing or catching crayfish. On winter days you can lounge inside on the love-seat in the sun, reading your book, gazing downstream. On summer days you can catch Gerry's Ferry from our new wharf, upstream to Port Meadow or downstream to the Isis Pub. (Environmental Agency regulations allow the wharf for boat access only). |
Paul du Toit’s large acrylic on canvas Seascape hangs above the bed and the small oil painting Vibrations (also by him) hangs in the entrance. In the kitchen area there is a charcoal drawing: Cape Town Street Scene.
The studio has Italian stone floors warmed by underfloor heating and a finely woven gabbeh rug. The hideaway kitchen is cleverly designed to provide for modern living, almost invisibly: Nespresso coffee machine, double induction hob, full-sized undercounter fridge with ice box and microwave and all the elegant necessities of city living. (A combination convection oven/microwave/grill is available on request). The studio is furnished with double bed, organic and fair trade linen, two bedside tables with drawers, a round dining table with chairs and comfortable love-seat sofa. The wardrobe has a mirror glass door, a hanging rail, and 3 drawers. It is W50xD60xH236. |
Folly Bridge House bathrooms are small. Their size is dictated by trying to introduce 21st comfort into a heritage house. So, if a large bathroom is a critical element of your enjoyment, FBH is not for you. However, the bathroom is bright, light with an innovative powerful water-softening shower and hairdryer.
There is superfast fibre optic broadband and a flatscreen TV/DVD. The latest in ventilation systems removes cooking smells, steam and Oxford’s notorious damp climate from the apartment, replacing them with fresh, warmed air from above the trees at a rate of 180 cubic metres per hour. Clothes washing and drying/ironing facilities are provided on the lower ground floor. Gated parking, in front of the house, is available at extra charge. Chairs and tables by the river allow guests to watch the canoes, punts, narrow boats, barges and university rowing crews at play.
